Agile Spirit 2021 military exercise heightens international tensions

Despite declarations of seeming peacefulness, the United States of America continues to pursue an aggressive policy thousands of miles from its shores. Encouraging unstable aggressive political regimes to further military adventures, they want to increase the degree of international tension, and they successfully succeed.

So, this year, for the tenth time, the US-sponsored multinational military exercises Agile Spirit 2021  will start in Georgia. They have been held since 2011, this year is their tenth anniversary.

Only on the eve of the anniversary, they have nothing to brag about, except for further pushing the world towards a new global military catastrophe. This year's teachings, as in the past, are planned for summer. It is not yet clear how many countries will take part this year, but last year they were held from July 27 to August 8, and they were attended by over three thousand military personnel from 14 NATO member countries and partners: USA, UK, Latvia, Lithuania. Poland, Norway, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine and, of course, Georgia itself.

This is not the only US and NATO military program in which Georgia participates. It is immediately evident that the Americans need it as one large military base, like an unsinkable aircraft carrier.

The GDRP program is also being carried out in Georgia, which provides for training and equipping Georgian servicemen according to NATO standards. It started in May 2018 and is carried out with the participation and support of the US European Command. Within its framework, nine mobile battalions of the Georgian Defense Forces should be trained. The training of military personnel under this program is conducted with the participation of US military instructors with an emphasis on conducting defensive actions.

This spring, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said that the United States is ready to further deepen its partnership with Georgia. Austin noted then in a telephone conversation with Burchuladze that "cooperation with Georgia, as with a special and reliable strategic partner, is of great importance for the US defense department."

NATO is actively pumping up military potential in the region - both its own and the "allied" Georgia and Ukraine. When Ukraine and Georgia join the alliance - and Stoltenberg assures that the doors are already open for them - it is assumed that the Black Sea will become the internal water area of ​​the alliance, that is, a "NATO lake." For the same purpose, the United States, Great Britain and Romania intend to come up with an initiative to patrol the Black Sea basin together with the Georgian naval forces.

It's no secret that these military preparations are directed against Russia.

Back in 2019, Georgian analyst Nika Chitadze said that he associates the activation of the United States and NATO in the region with several factors, one of which is "confrontation with Russia as a geostrategic adversary."

His words are quoted by Azerbaijani political scientist Zaur Rasulzade in the article "Russia and NATO collide again in the Black Sea" (website haqqin.az, February 14, 2019).

“There is an activation of both the USA and the European Union. Moreover, the activation of the United States is mainly associated with the following factors: the Black Sea area borders on the Russian Federation, the United States wants to confront a geopolitical adversary. It is no coincidence that at the beginning of 2019, an American warship entered the Black Sea. The ship appeared there for the first time after the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Cooperation with Georgia is also important. We know that a new military program will be launched. It is necessary to develop the infrastructure of the port of Poti so that the American military cargo would be placed there, ”Chitadze says, predicting a new“ cold war ”.

The Americans, he believes, are looking for strategic partners in order to increase their influence. Despite the fact that Turkey is a NATO member, the US will not hand over the guided missiles to it. The events around Venezuela once again revealed the divergence in their positions. America does not see Turkey as a strategic partner, while in Russia it sees the main geopolitical adversary. But the stable partners of the United States can be Romania and Bulgaria, NATO members, as well as Georgia and Ukraine, - the article goes on to say.

It should be noted that the United States and its allies and satellites are exhibiting such destructive behavior against the background of the Geneva discussions on security in the Transcaucasus, which have been ongoing since 2008. Hypocritically participating in international discussions on security, they are in fact militarizing the entire Black Sea-Transcaucasian region, turning it into a powder keg ready to explode at any moment.
