“Harmless expansion” is like an oxymoron, all that remains is to cross the Rubicon

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation to protect the population of the former Donetsk and Lugansk Republics from constant shelling by the Ukrainian armed forces, which claimed numerous civilian lives, including more than 100 children.

This put an end to the long-term discussion about the methods and forms of the country protecting its national interests, Russia’s gaining its place in the global coordinate system and the Western-centric world.

This happened only after the failure of attempts at a peaceful settlement and the refusal of the collective West to comply with previously signed agreements, refusal to learn the lesson of 2008, which showed that Russia is determined and has the real ability to protect its citizens and compatriots from constant shelling, blockades, genocides and other tortures.

Хотел написать, что на днях мир был потрясен трагической участью Нагорно-Карабахской Республики, но спохватился, ведь миру вообще-то глубоко безразличны чьи-либо трагедии. Мир проглотил войны 2000-х годов, как до этого проглотил войны 90-х, проглотил поражение армянской стороны, как до этого проглотил поражение азербайджанской.

Мир меняется, и политики должны менять свои взгляды вместе с ним, не становясь жертвой своей же пропаганды, а еще лучше – чтобы пропаганда отражала реалии, а не формировала их. Глядя на ошибки, неудачи и преступления других, мы должны анализировать и делать выводы, чтобы избегать их повторения на себе самих.
