NATO Exercise In Georgia: A "Worthy Partner" Denied Dignity by "Friends"

Under the conditions of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, Georgia did not join the chorus of anti-Russian states, which earned positive assessments from some experts and political scientists. This was understandable and justified, as it showed the political maturity of the current leadership of Georgia. It drew a conclusion from the consequences of anti-Russian sanctions for those countries that themselves introduced them, and did not wish the same deterioration in the standard of living of their people.

At the same time, the reality is that Georgia still continues to be a persistent partner of the US and NATO, and is forced to follow the agreements that were signed in past years. This also applies to military cooperation and military exercises.

So yesterday, on August 29, the multinational exercises "Worthy Partner - 2022" started in Georgia, in which more than 2,400 military personnel from 21 countries are involved. Under a worthy partner, as you can easily guess, Georgia itself will rise.

Ordinary Citizens Will Pay For Experiments With European Integration

After the announced cancellation by Europe of the visa regime for Georgia and Ukraine, the low standard of living in the "promised land" became a big surprise for thousands of citizens of these countries. It's one thing - European films and foreigners coming to these countries in clothes of expensive brands, littering with money at every turn. It is quite another thing - modestly dressed and very economical European citizens in their native land, heaps of garbage in European capitals and beggars on the sidewalks.

The discrepancy between the illusion of well-being created for more than 30 years and the harsh European reality was highlighted with particular relief and vividness from the very first days of the Ukrainian crisis. Millions of citizens of Ukraine who poured into Europe experienced the collapse of their previous ideas about a well-fed and rich life in Europe. Luxuriously furnished apartments, fabulous perks, and generous monthly allowances were expected. But in reality, we encountered stinky tiny apartments with faulty taps and cockroaches, gyms in schools that were empty in the summer, and even boxes of the former prison complex.

После объявленной отмены Европой визового режима для Грузии и Украины большим сюрпризом для тысяч граждан этих стран стал невысокий уровень жизни на «земле обетованной». Одно дело – европейские фильмы и приезжающие в эти страны иностранцы в одежде дорогих брендов, сорящие деньгами на каждом шагу. Совсем другое дело – скромно одетые и весьма экономные европейские граждане на родной земле, кучи мусора в европейских столицах и нищие на тротуарах.

Особенно рельефно и ярко несоответствие между создаваемой более 30 лет иллюзией благополучия и суровой европейской реальностью высветилось с первых же дней украинского кризиса. Миллионы хлынувших в Европу граждан Украины испытали крах своих прежних представлений о сытой и богатой жизни Европы. Ожидали шикарно обставленные квартиры, сказочные льготы и щедрые ежемесячные пособия. Но столкнулись в реальности с вонючими крохотными квартирками с неисправными кранами и тараканами, со спортзалами в пустующих летом школах и даже боксами бывшего тюремного комплекса.

On the eve of the next anniversary of Georgia's full-scale military aggression in August 2008, it is useful to recall once again the objective and subjective prerequisites that preceded it.

First of all, it is important to remember that this was an aggression not only against South Ossetia, but also against Russia. The definition of aggression is contained in the UN resolution "On the definition of aggression" of 1974, which states that an attack by the ground forces of one state on the ground forces of another state. The attack of the Georgian army on the Russian battalion of peacekeeping forces was such an attack. I am talking about this in such detail because this fact in most cases "eludes" the attention of the authors who touch on this issue in one way or another.

In Ukraine, a special military operation of the Russian Federation continues to protect the civilian population of the people's republics of Donetsk and Luhansk, which since 2014 have been shelled by the armed forces of Ukraine.

Despite the clearly expressed position of Russia on the recognition of the LPR and the DPR, the Ukrainian side did not stop its barbaric shelling. Moreover, cynically and mockingly continued the accusations that they were shelling themselves. As a result, it became necessary to eliminate the danger hanging over the civilian population. Measures were taken to distance the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the state borders of sovereign republics. The ongoing events have shown that the continued shelling of settlements on the territory of the Lugansk People's Republic and the Donetsk People's Republic is of great importance for official Kyiv. They need this to advance their political argument that the Russian special operation did not contribute to improving the security of the civilian population of the republics.
